Every once in a while I find a meme on YouTube that makes me go “Damn, why didn’t I think of doing that”. Case in point, Jenny Owens Young. Mix super adorable indie-folk rock girl (who also bears a striking resemblance to Emma Watson) with extremely well executed covers of classic hip-hop jams and you get ‘effing magic. I’m guessing this idea traces its roots back to Dynamite Hack’s classic cover of ‘Boyz in Da’ Hood’ but Owens adds an added spark of full bore indie production with backing vocals and unusual instrumental choices. You’ll never hear Nelly’s ‘Hot in Herre” in the same way.
