It seems like everything The xx touch turns to solid, chill gold. Take Florence and the Machine’s ‘You’ve Got the Love’ (itself a cover of a 1986 progressive R&B track). They take Welch’s over the top diva crooning and pull the reigns back, adding a little back-beat and chopping the vocals to make something with a very deep groove.
