The Los Angeles food truck scene is on fuego. Peep FindLAFoodTrucks.com for a list of over 60 amazing food trucks that bounce around the city feeding the lost angels of Los Angeles. The Kogi Twitter revolution is definitely partly or even wholly responsible and helped launch the food truck evolution and revolution around the country. The new hype in hipstervilles was palpable. And my new personal favorite food truck, The Grilled Cheese Truck stepped up the game to amazing levels and is after my cheesified heart. The sandwich for the night was a Grilled Mac N Cheese with Sliced Tomatoes and a side of Tater Tots. All sorts of goodness happening…

I might just have to adventure to its location tonight to get the Brie & Sliced Pear Grilled Cheese. OMFG.

Z-Trip + The Dead Weather + Sluggo

Alright, I will not even deny it. On the platter at hand are 3 of my favorite things in the entire world all involved in a great and resounding 4 minutes of awesomeness: The Big Brother, my homie, my stromie Z-Trip. The one and only over-talented Jack White. And last but not least, Mr. SepSeven himself, Slug.

Z-Trip does the remix treatment and puts Mr. White drums in the pocket for Treat Me Like Your Mother, the lead single off Horehound. Slug of Atmosphere, the leading man of the Rhymesayers plays the role of guest and rocks a nice 20 bar verse…

The Dead Weather is by far and away one of the hardest hitting blues/rock projects to come around in a long time (If you haven’t done so, BUY THEIR RECORD. Worth every cent).

City of Angels and Streets of Saints

I am constantly enthralled with amazing art books. This one is of the very amazing kind. If a book is good, I pretty much become useless as I scroll the pages in complete awww for hours. All the Saints of the City of the Angels: Seeking the Soul of L.A. On Its Streets by artist J. Michael Walker accomplished this with ease. Walker covers, discovers and colors all 78 Sainted streets of Los Angeles. The publisher’s description is poignant but obviously doesn’t capture the entirety of what this book has to offer.

Proud, defiant, thoughtful, and at times melancholy, the saints in this beautifully designed people’s history of L.A. reveal their own unique versions of transcendence and, in doing so, challenge traditional notions of what it means to be blessed. Playfully borrowing from various artistic genres from illuminated manuscripts to comic strips and encased in a sumptuous gold cover, All the Saints of the City of the Angels combines meticulous research with creative inspiration to depict in paint and ink Angelenos both historical and contemporary. Since 2000, J. Michael Walker has been researching every Los Angeles street named for a saint. Delving into city records, hagiographies, old photographs, maps, advertisements, and history books, Walker has emerged with what he calls a loopy valentine to the City of the Angels. On San Julian Street, in the heart of Skid Row, San Julian’s legend as the patron saint of wanderers comes to life as he talks to the homeless in the shelters. A hidden path off San Sebastian Drive leads Walker to contemplate the similarity between San Sebastian who, after being pierced with arrows, was nursed back to health by an elderly woman and the Tongva Indians who, once declared extinct by the government, are now experiencing a cultural renaissance thanks to the efforts of generations of elders. I am pretty bummed I am late to this game and missed this exhibit by a couple YEARS. Oh well, i suppose the book will do for now.

Words are not needed here but I have to interject with a couple. At first glance, you would think these are three random contestants on Serch’s next White Rapper Show – The European Edition, but look closer. This is the type of thing that changes the entire musical landscape. Ok, ok, that might be a little grandiose, but most new styles of music and paradigm shifts happen from those that are on the cusp like these three. Check it out and wait for the song to kick in.

Plus this fool’s tattoos are straight dope. I think he did them with a pen, a lighter and a threading needle. Rockin it in Pink Floyd boxers with the Jimmy lettin loose. Game the f*ck over…

Straight up, DJ Cheapshot is THAT dude. He’s paid his “dues” all around the world and continues to push all sorts of envelopes in the music game. He’s good people and this mix is TITS.

Dj Cheapshot—more popularly known as Fort Minor’s DJ—combines his eclectic knowledge of “club-banging-get-your-girl-hot-and-bothered” selections to his trademarked “A.D.D. style” quick-blends (initially cultured everywhere from backyard parties, the homie Manuel’s wedding, dive bars, rodeos and county fairs) and peddles the talent to the hottest of hotspots (checkout his SKAM artist profile). More notably to the world stage with Fort Minor.

Cheapy’s always pushing his cool-ass mixtapes but the only way to catch him showing off his talents in a live mix is at an event or on that weird hidden webcam he “secretly” setup in his bedroom… ORrrrrr on this mix he did LIVE on Shade 45.

Rumor has it he actually had to sneak a digital recorder past security the night before he had to actually be at the station. He James Bonded his recorder to the mixing board right under the noses of hosts Rude Jude and Lord Sear. They don’t even know about this “bootleg” Cheapshot jacked.

It took him 5 weeks to get back into their studio and sneak it out….yet, here it is for you. GET IT VIRAL!

These New Puritans – We Want War

Every once in awhile words just can not describe the feelings that music translates. We Want War by These New Puritans is heavy-fucking-duty. Simple and plain. I can not wait to hear this on a gigantic sound system. Operatic yet soulful. It leaves you wanting more. The video is beautifully shot and directed by Daniel Askill.

Taken from their 2010 album, Hidden. Set for release on January 18th 2010, the album was produced by TNPS’s Jack Barnett and
Graham Sutton (Bark Psychosis, Boymerang) and mixed by Dave Cooley (J Dilla, MF
DOOM).

Hidden features six-foot Japanese Taiko drums, a thirteen piece brass and woodwind en-semble, sub-heavy beats, prepared piano, a children’s choir, Foley recording techniques (including a melon with cream crackers attached struck by a hammer, used to simulate the sound of a human head being smashed), and the ethereal voice of Heather Marlatt from dream-pop group Salem.

The Blakroc project that Hip Hop impresario Damon Dash helmed is pretty impressive. Putting to work blues rockers The Black Keys to lay down the heavy duty riffs and licks was a pretty genius idea. The list of guests is just as impressive with contributions from the versatile list of artists like Raekwon, RZA and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard of the Wu-Tang Clan; Jim Jones; Mos Def; singer Nicole Wray; Pharoahe Monch; Ludacris; Billy Danze; and Q-Tip.
