Jason Polan is trying to draw every person in New York. Lofty goal, but he’s doing it. Polan’s blog is full of multiple sketches daily, ranging from celebrities on the corner, to friends at the museum and random people on the 3rd Avenue bus, mostly acting as unknowing subjects. But he says if you’d like to increase your chances of a portrait of you appearing on his blog, email him your location, what you will be wearing, the time you will be there, and to make sure you have at least 2 minutes to spare.

Ken vs. Darren

Watch out, Ken. There’s a new kid in town and his name is Darren. Created by Barbie designer, Stacey McBride-Irby, Darren is infinitely cuter than Barbie’s other half, has a better haircut, a better wardrobe, thanks to Jay-Z, who dressed him in Rocawear clothing, and a cool British accent. He also excels at sports and geography. Cute, international, athletic and smart. Quadruple burn, Ken.

The plus side for Ken is that Darren won’t be on his turf. Darren will only be sold exclusively at the London department store Selfridges & Co. through the month of March for $40.

Using Your Head

28-year-old Londoner Philip Levine started losing his hair in his early twenties, and instead of hanging on to what strands he had left, he shaved his head and embraced his new blank canvas. Levine comes up with the ideas and has professional body painter, Kat Sinclair, execute these creations on his head.

“Unlike a wig where you are hiding what may be seen as a deformity, what I do is tell people feel special, original and embrace what could be looked at as a weakness and turn it into a strength.”

Premature balding guys out there, take some inspiration from this guy. Embrace the cue ball.

Levine is planning an art exhibition showing off over 100 of his head designs, including visual art films and busts of his head designs.

Bryan Berg, has created a wild, Guinness Wold Record breaking, piece of art using simply 218,792 cards. That’s 4,051 decks. Berg is an American architect who created the “house of cards” to replicated the Venetian Macau, where it resides.

Even the city that never sleeps needs a power nap sometime. German photographer Christopher Thomas has made an art of capturing these very rare moments of New York City. Over the past decade, Thomas has visited iconic NYC sights and has caught the precious minutes and seconds when nothing was happening on film. How beautifully eerie.

You have some paint right th… wait, it’s not coming off. That’s because you probably got inked by artist, Amanda Wachob. A trained artist, Wachob has been tattooing since 1998 and has been pushing the boundaries of the tattoo medium to blur the line between fine art and body art. Some of her tattoos mimic brushstrokes so perfectly that’ll have you reaching for the turpentine.

She is currently taking appointments at Dare Devil Tattoo and Fun City Tattoo in NYC.

Her artwork has been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide.

Secrets Beneath Paris Streets

The 185 miles of Parisian catacombs supposedly hold the remains of more than 6 million Parisians.

Throughout history, this underground network of quarry-stone tunnels has provided refuge for fugitives avoiding persecution, and today it is a treasure trove of urban art created by illicit artists known as “cataphiles”.

Some of the art– sculptures, paintings, mosaics, allegedly dates back hundreds of years. Some of it seems to have originated around the time of student and worker protests in the 1960’s. Most sources agree, however, that the explosion of “cataphiles” looking to create art in the tunnels in the 1980’s gave rise to the bulk of the graffiti art that can be found there today.

Photographer Gilles Tondini, led by a specialist in the tunnels and caves of Paris, Gilles Thomas, explored the art in the catacombs. Tondini’s photographs are published in the book, Paris Underground, authored by Caroline Archer and architect/self-professed “cataphile”, Alexandre Parre.
