Lonely Island dropped a new video on SNL this weekend for ‘Boombox’ featuring everyone’s favorite Stroke, Julian Casablancas. And in case you didn’t hear, The Strokes are hitting the road this summer with their first confirmed date as the headliners for Lollapalooza in August in advance of their new album, tentatively slated for September.

Oscar’s Best Picture Fail

With the culmination of the Hollywood awards season last night at the Oscars, College Humor.com took a stab at the 10 Best Picture Academy Award Nominee posters that shoulda been:

The movie that everyone thought would win Best Picture:

Or, Dances With Wolves meets Pochantas but bigger-budget, with CGI blue aliens and a hot action star playing the paraplegic lead and a catchy title that, based on box office numbers, only turned three people off from going to see it because they thought it had something to do with “the internets”.

What arguably shoulda won best picture…

Did they just nominate District 9 because Peter Jackson was behind it and peeps still can’t get over LOTR?

And what did win Best Picture, THE HURT LOCKER — the film that also scored an historic win for the first female director to win an Academy Award, Kathryn Bigelow.

You knew this had to get some love with Oprah and Tyler Perry behind it. Winner of Best Supporting Actress for Mo’nique as well as an historic win for the first African-American screenwriter to get an Academy Award, Geoffrey Fletcher for Precious.

Directed by Tamra Davis, the documentary features never-before seen footage of the prolific artist painting, talking about his art, and existing in the two years prior to his death in 1988.

Showing at several different locations around San Francisco each day will feature a different theme. Too bad I can’t get up to S.F. for it. Gallery Curiouser and Curiouser has a super neat show going on all art work inspired by Alice in Wonderland. I suppose we’ll be seeing a lot of that for the next month or so with the movie coming out this weekend. Here are some of the pieces I liked the most.

Little Brother Is Watching Big Brother

Equal parts neighborhood historian, sartorialist, artist, and activist, Clayton Patterson photographed and video tapped the inhabitants of Manhattan’s Lower East Side of Manhattan over the past 30 years. Written, produced and directed by Ben Solomon and Dan Levin “Captured” follows Patterson as he moves from Calgary, Canada to Essex St. in the L.E.S and begins his visual odyssey that span’s from the drag queens and drug dealers to the riots surrounding Tompkins Square Park in 1988. It is a striking portrait of man compelled to preserve the perverse beauty of the world that surrounded him, as well as, a time capsule of the New York of yester year.

Remeber that movie with “that guy”… you know, he was in that other movie too – what’s his name?…

For those times when you’re trying to figure out the name of the actor who played so-and-so in a tv show or movie, you can visit this website, dedicated to character actors who are easy to recognize, but difficult to place.

IMDB lends it’s info to the site, but let’s face it, will we really remember these actors even after brushing up on their filmography, or just a good idea in theory?

Here’s the trailer to Banksy’s new movie which is showing in the Lambeth Palace, which I’m not sure if I would go there alone, but it looks interesting for sure! Of course it’s always sold out but if you can get in there, go, and tell me how it was?
